Coachella Cancels 2020 Events, Reschedules Potential Smaller April 2021 Edition

After moving their April dates to October, Coachella’s parent company AEG have cancelled the rescheduled weekends.

Reports emerged a couple weeks ago that Coachella had asked artists to rescheduled for the second time, this time for their usual April dates, but in 2021. Billboard are now reporting that Coachella will hold a smaller show in April, whilst a larger, higher capacity comeback could come in October of 2021.

About 40% of ticket buyers have requested refunds for this year’s festival and AEG officials think they could probably pull off the festival in April at 60% capacity, but are holding off on making a final rescheduling decision until there is more clarity on the pandemic’s overall trajectory.

AEG have also laid off 15% of its workforce, furloughing more than 100 of their employees as well as instituting 20-50% pay cuts.

With Coachella cancelling their already rescheduled event, it begs the question – will any festivals take place in 2020 at all? EDC Las Vegas was also rescheduled to October, however that it now looking unlikely. Whatever happens, we do know that when festivals do make a comeback – they’ll be sure to sell out very quick.
