Hailing from Slovakia, Jimmy Pe has been around for quite some time and always bring a fresh angle to the broader dance music experience. “Pe Is Not Dead!,” is no different in this manner and comes paired with a music video. Sonically, the track channels the nostalgic days of ‘Bloghause,’ which is an era that thrived about 10 years ago when the grassroots music blogs became the predominate source of music discovery as the the major labels were collapsing while they failed to combat piracy and adjust to online streaming.
In the video, an abstract tongue-and-cheek feel is expressed through a rapid editing style and warped plot. Jimmy Pe and a grandmotherly accomplish terrorize the locals with kidnappings through a mission to cause anguish via the weaponization of music. Things aren’t too horrific where viewing the video is uncomfortable, but dark enough to keep the eyes glued to the screen the whole time.
On the audio side, epic wubs collide with a hard, but simply designed drum work. The intensity picks up as the shredding basslines take over and ever-so light hip-hop influences come into play.
