Sam Segurado has a one-of-a-kind story when it comes to his musical journey. Living between Ireland and Portugal during his childhood, Sam thought he didn’t truly fit into either of his heritages. He began to travel around a lot in search of somewhere that felt like home, and the entire time his passion for music was a tool for staying optimistic and full of determination.
Once he chose Dublin as his long-term place to reside, Sam could finally focus on forging his own identity as an artist. Since then, Sam has released his breathtaking album, Looking for the Fox, and other hypnotic projects that have secured his spot in being a rising star in the indie music scene. Now, Sam returns with his new single, “JJ”, a spellbinding tune joined with a music video that is just as trance-inducing as the song itself.
Discussing the message in “JJ”, Sam says it is, “one of the earliest songs written for the album. It may sound hackneyed as hell, but I wrote this song for the women I know, and the women I don’t. It’s theirs now. Whether they want it or not. An ode to the strength of women, to their experiences, and a drop in the ocean of their pain. We can surround ourselves in darkness for protection, but that leaves us in the dark.”
The combination of Sam’s beautiful lyricism, tantalizing guitar melodies, and crisp percussion radiates an emotional adventure for listeners. “JJ” is a sign of the promising future ahead for Sam and builds anticipation by being the lead single from his forthcoming sophomore album, The Remainder.
