Paris’ music scene has been invigorated by the experimental vigor of Superparka. The Parisian duo, Paco and Simon, epitomize the city’s eclectic spirit and have just revealed their latest single, “razzz”, ahead of their eagerly-awaited album quatro, set to debut on 13th October.
“Razzz” entrances with an electric guitar melody right from the get-go, paired perfectly with the duo’s characteristic hip-hop drums. As the soft vocals intertwine, they’re anchored by a bassline you can’t help but groove to. It’s a precursor to what the album promises – a unique melding of 70’s live instrumentals, contemporary trap, automatic lyric writing, and more.
Superparka’s musical journey, punctuated with hits like “GIRL” and collaborations with Kitsuné, has been a strong example to their creative prowess and DIY ethos. Their music is a tapestry, weaving influences from Jai Paul to Animal Collective, and even video game soundtracks.
Their collaboration with Taiwanese visual artist Lulu Lin and French director Pablo Padovani paints a surreal, futuristic western canvas for quatro. And Paco’s lyricism in “razzz”, reminiscing formative travels and youth, touches upon self-acceptance and finding one’s place in the world. His musings about journeys that shape one’s identity resonate especially given their roots in a small French city where conformity reigned.
As Superparka stands on the precipice of their debut album release, they continue to challenge musical norms, making quatro something highly anticipated for the future.
