There are music festivals and there are outdoor adventures, but rarely does a marriage of the two come together as magically as Eastern France’s Rise Festival. Perhaps the best kept secret in Europe’s dance music scene, Rise combines a bucket list-worthy trip to a world class ski resort with a high octane 7-day rave. This year it delivered dynamite sets from Bicep, Sonny Fodera, Hybrid Minds, Sigma, Hannah Laing, Jungle, Murphy’s Law, and more.

For those who didn’t make it out to the festival this year, the bustling albeit intimate gathering distinguished itself from its peers with Michelin star chef prepared meals and secret sets atop mountain summits, ski and snowboard lessons from professionals who were as fun as they were helpful, and paragliding adventures that guests could sign up for, if they were so inclined. Don’t get us started on the cheese shops and the wine!
Like a mini-ADE in Aspen, the festival took over the town-sized resort that hosted it so that patrons had to explore and navigate their way through streets lined with decadent smells and windows steamed with fine cuisine. In fact, the more I got around Les Deux Alps the more it seemed like every bar, restaurant, or music venue had another stage or party to experience.
Where other events push for profits at the expense of the vibe, Rise Festival manages to keep vibes high by intentionally limiting ticket sales so even after 9 iterations of the event it still doesn’t feel like it’s getting “too big”.
