The Music Industry Goes Silent On Tuesday #THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED

Today, Tuesday the 2nd of June marks a day in which the music industry in America as well as many other regions goes silent.

This comes as the majority of America states are in protest regarding the murder of George Floyd, the protests have since escalated to a general outcry regarding racism throughout America, specifically from the police.

With footage coming in almost constantly of police stepping out of line unnecessarily, they’ve added fuel to the already significant fire.

Writing on TheShowMustBePaused.com, organizers Jamila Thomas (Senior Director of Marketing at Atlantic) and Brianna Agyemang (a former Atlantic Executive who is now Senior Artist Campaign Manager at Platoon) said that #TheShowMustBePaused is “an initiative created by two Black women in music in observance of the long-standing racism and inequality that exists from the boardroom to the boulevard,” adding, “We will not continue to conduct business as usual without regard for Black lives.”

Under the hashtag #THESHOWMUSTBEPAUSED, The sentiment of the post, taking responsibility as “gatekeepers of the culture,” is one dozens of companies took to heart in the hours after violence broke out in Minneapolis and other cities across the U.S.

Every major record label and even Spotify are pledging to disconnect from work, social media and general music promotion efforts and reconnect with the community. Labels such as Interscope and Atlantic have opted to not release any music this week.
