Empire State Building Illuminates in Wu-Tang Colors for 30th Anniversary of ‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’ as NYC Mayor Proclaims ‘Wu-Tang Day’

On November 9, New York City celebrated RZA and the Wu Tang Clan by illuminating the Empire State Building in Wu’s iconic black and yellow colors to honor their historic milestone – the 30th anniversary of the classic 1993 debut, ‘Enter the Wu-Tang’ (36 Chambers). New York City Mayor Eric Adams also marked the occasion by declaring November 9th “Wu-Tang Day” in New York City.

‘Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers)’ has emerged as one of the most highly acclaimed records in Hip-Hop history. It achieved platinum status within a year of its release and has now reached triple-platinum status. In the past year, the album received the honor of being selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the National Recording Registry due to its cultural, historical, and aesthetic significance. Only 25 albums are chosen for this prestigious recognition each year. Furthermore, the album earned the 8th spot in Rolling Stone’s list of the 200 Greatest Hip-Hop Albums of All Time and was also ranked 27th in Rolling Stone’s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time in 2021. Even after 30 years, Wu-Tang Clan continues to inspire other artists, their borough and state of origin, and people all over the world.

Of the Wu’s seven albums, it is still considered by many as their greatest and stands as one of Hip Hop’s finest accomplishments. In addition to New York’s celebration of the group, the Wu are re-releasing Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) in a number of limited editions to commemorate its anniversary. In partnership with Get On Down, a division of Sony, Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers) is being reissued as a limited box set which features a seven-inch vinyl collection, custom artwork, the original album on vinyl, a 60-page book and an exclusive pack of trading cards. The album is also being re-released on a color vinyl and cassette.
