Explaining All Of The Insane Cameos In The Flash

The Flash has finally now landed in cinemas around the world, after being announced way back in 2014. The Andy Muschietti-directed picture has seen terrific reviews and is certainly worth the watch. Given the world and characters involved in the premise, it was expected to see some cameos and that came to fruition with the final film showcasing a number of special scenes. Dive in below to see the cameos that landed in the movie as well as how they connect to their own worlds.

WARNING MAJOR SPOILERS BELOW

Gal Gadot’s Wonder Woman

Contrary to initial belief that her scene had been removed from the film, Ben Affleck unintentionally spoiled Gal Gadot’s appearance as Wonder Woman in The Flash a few months ago, as he assumed it was not included. Surprisingly, Wonder Woman makes an early appearance in the movie. In a thrilling sequence where a hospital collapses, Flash saves numerous individuals, and as he catches up to Batman on a suspension bridge, Barry helps evacuate everyone while Bruce finds himself hanging perilously over the edge. Since Barry possesses super speed and not super strength, he struggles to pull Batman back up. Fortunately, Wonder Woman arrives just in time and employs her Lasso of Truth to rescue the Dark Knight.

Henry Cavill’s Superman

Yes, technically, Henry Cavill is in The Flash. His version of Superman can be seen twice – once from behind dealing with a volcano in Guatemala, while the second time is a brief snapshot of his confrontation with the Justice League after coming back to life. Both times, he’s entirely CGI, so Cavill didn’t actually return physically.

Christopher Reeve’s Superman & Helen Slater’s Supergirl

While these two Kryptonian cousins didn’t meet up in each other’s movies, it didn’t stop fans from creating edits in a world where the two have met. Fortunately, those headcanons came true in The Flash when viewers were shown glimpses of other DC universes. One of them is a world where Christopher Reeve’s Superman from the late 1970s film lived in the same world as Helen Slater’s Supergirl from the 1984 movie.

Interestingly, Reeves was supposed to be in Supergirl but bowed out, according to the DC documentary, You Will Believe: The Cinematic Saga of Superman. So it’s great that fans finally got to see the team-up that was meant to happen, even if it was nearly four decades late.

Adam West’s Batman & Cesar Romero’s Joker

Adam West appears as Batman in the brief moment of The Flash. He famously played the character in the 1960s live-action TV series and its 1966 feature film. Synonymous with the Caped Crusader, the actor went on to reprise the role across a whole host of animated shows before his death in 2017. We briefly hear him going after the Joker. As well as West’s Batman, we also hear Cesar Romero’s Joker. Recognizable by his iconic laugh, he was the first actor to play the Clown Prince of Crime in live-action. It’s nice to know that, somewhere in the multiverse, West’s Batman and Romero’s Joker are still at loggerheads.

Nicolas Cage’s Superman

Dating back almost three decades ago, Nicolas Cage was set to don the cap in Tim Burton’s Superman Lives. Whilst that may have never taken flight, Muschietti finally gave Cage the opportunity of a lifetime.

In the interview (shockingly released prior to the movie), Muschietti said that working with Cage “was absolutely wonderful” and that “Although the role was a cameo, he dove into it.” A dream come true not only for a Superman megafan like Cage working with the legendary star was also a huge milestone for the filmmaker who said, “I dreamt all my life to work with him. I hope I can work with him again soon.”

George Clooney’s Batman

The Flash ends with a whole new Bruce Wayne stepping out of his car; George Clooney’s Batman. The Ocean’s 11 star previously played the Caped Crusader in Joel Schumacher’s Batman & Robin back in 1997, so like Keaton, his involvement is a nostalgia-heavy treat – and hints that Ben Affleck’s time as the character is well and truly over.

Teddy Sears’ Jay Garrick

Lastly, it’s not a homage to the DC franchise without acknowledging The CW series that came to an end this year. During one of the glimpses of the multiverse, Teddy Sears reprised his role of Jay Garrick in a Black and White version of DC Universe. Apparently, this version of the Flash is probably different from the one in the CW series due to a list of reasons, one of which was Sears played a villain who pretended to be the hero in the TV series. Meanwhile, in the film, he was already a superhero from the start.

George Reeves’ Superman

The oldest Superman star to make a cameo in ‘The Flash’ is George Reeves. While his appearance is a blink-and-you-‘ll-miss-it moment at the end of the film, you can see the Adventures of Superman star in a black-and-white universe as we see through the multiverse towards the end of the movie.
