Picture this: from the uproarious set by Andy Frasco that had the entire crowd doing the Horah, to the electronic rock vibes of Break Science, and the deep bass grooves of Truth – Gem & Jam is a haven for all eclectic souls.
In the daytime, the festival exuded a laid-back and enjoyable atmosphere, embracing art in every nook and cranny. The Quartz stage, adorned with beautiful canopies, became a daytime sanctuary, featuring plenty of flow artists to either join or simply appreciate visually. The art display tent, hosting live artists painting away, was another daytime gem, showcasing incredible talent and inspiring creativity. One particularly cherished moment for me was a large wooden canvas on the ground with a sign reading “community art canvas,” surrounded by paint brushes and paint, where kids, adults, and artists alike came together for a beautiful mosaic of creative expression, all free of charge.
let’s talk about the sunset sets at the Emerald stage – an enchanting experience as it faces the setting sun, providing a backdrop for awe-inspiring performances. As the night unfolded, the school bus emerged as a cool late-night feature, its speakers resonating with sets from artists like Seppi, Sickfloyd, and Eyechronic. The bus’s interior was nothing short of extraordinary, setting the stage for high vibes that lasted well into the night.
Against this backdrop, Gem & Jam welcomed a vibrant community of 4,500 guests throughout the weekend, creating an atmosphere filled with music, art, and unforgettable moments. On Sunday night, the Emerald Stage witnessed the debut of Andy Frasco & the U.N., delivering a raucous, two-hour set filled with their signature playful antics and Frasco’s cheeky storytelling. A delightful surprise unfolded as Frasco invited lespecial on stage for an impromptu, hard-hitting sit-in, capturing the magic in a 2-minute video clip for everyone to relive.
Collaborating with luminary visual artist Jonathan Singer, The Disco Biscuits mesmerized the audience on Saturday night, creating real-time visuals that responded to the band’s cues, resulting in a truly improvisational and captivating performance.
Electro-soul queen Maddy O’Neal showcased her musical versatility with two dynamic sets. On Friday night, she graced the Emerald Stage with her signature bass-heavy, live-electronic set, while on Saturday night, she seamlessly transitioned to perform as her house music alias, Madhaus, on the Onyx Stage—demonstrating her mastery of two distinct genres and her prowess as a dynamic, high-octane selector.

With “Gems” in its very name, the festival promises an array of the coolest rocks and gems from across the globe. Renowned for hosting some of the most distinguished vendors, Gem & Jam stands as the ultimate destination for acquiring the headiest and most intricately handmade items. I highly encourage setting aside a dedicated moment to indulge in the shopping delights, paying homage to the vendors who pour their utmost effort into curating an unforgettable experience with the most extraordinary pieces.
Additionally, Gem & Jam made history by hosting its inaugural onsite pre-party on Thursday, February 1, in the campgrounds, courtesy of the Puerto Disco Society collective. The festival also continued its commitment to environmental sustainability through its partnership with Green Disco. In 2023, Green Disco introduced Eco-Bands, a 100% hemp, optional ticket add-on that successfully removed over 300,000 lbs of CO2e from the atmosphere, tracked via Pachama. Building on this success, Green Disco expanded the Eco-Band program for Gem & Jam 2024, supporting the Million Trees Project and local organization Tucson Clean & Beautiful.
Tucson Clean & Beautiful focuses on planting trees directly within local communities, targeting neighborhoods with the lowest tree canopy. The organization plants low water-use desert shade trees, including Velvet Mesquite, Desert Ironwood, and Blue Palo Verde, enhancing neighborhoods with trees that can last over 100 years. Through the sale of Eco-Band add-ons, Gem & Jam contributed to the planting of 150+ trees, providing shade and lasting impact to entire neighborhoods.
