Listen Out came and raved throughout Australia and New Zealand the past couple of weeks, presenting a terrific lineup consisting of Skrillex, Four Tet, Ice Spice, Lil Uzi Vert and many more.
The lineup was terrific, the likes of Skrillex are not easy to book and become quite the attraction. Just a week out from the festival, Metro Boomin was announced to have pulled out – an unsurprising annoyance. The mix of hip-hop and electronic artists brought a special feel to the festival, it allowed for a mixture of fans to mingle and also opened attendees’ ears to other genres. Exploring the handful of stages, each brought a different feel to them, but all equally as electric.
Taking place in Caribbean Gardens in Victoria, 30 minutes from the Melbourne CBD – the location was a bit of a challenge this year around. There is a lack of public transport but thankfully Listen Out provided shuttle buses to and from the closest train station. Whilst more inconvenient, the grounds were sparse and there were no negatives to note.
The production of the festival was solid. It was slightly jarring to see both Four Tet and Skrillex without visuals, but it’s understood that this was their own decision. The stages were very large and had plenty of room to view and dance.
Listen Out in 2023 was a blast, with a few challenges in their midst – they still prevailed with an epic day and it would not be surprising to see many of the attendees back in 2024.
