Mija Releases ‘I Wanna Be A Big Star’ Off Of ‘NO RULES’ EP

Let’s take a stroll down Mija’s musical lane. Starting with her debut EP, How To Measure The Distance Between Lovers, Mija gave us a taste of her ability to blend genres. This talent didn’t go unnoticed, with heavy hitters like Pitchfork, The Fader, and Vice singing her praises. Her next big project, “Desert Trash,” took us on a deeper dive, mixing vibes from indie rock, Drum n’ Bass, House, to Glitch, all rolled out under her personal label imprint.

Flash forward to 2023, and Mija’s vibe is all about introspection, wearing her heart on her sleeve and diving deep into her own identity. This vibe shines through in her upcoming NO RULES EP. We’ve been getting glimpses of this with monthly releases, like the soulful “A Woman Comes Into A Room”, all building up to her much-awaited fall No Rules tour.

Her latest track – “I Wanna Be A Big Star” is the single that pays tribute to the 1990 documentary, ‘Paris Is Burning.’ You can feel the documentary’s free spirit and joy in the song, especially with its catchy production and the slick verses by Hip-Hop dynamo Cakes Da Killa and rising star Wreckno. In Mija’s own words, she aimed for a track that is “something you can dance, to something you can cry to.”

All in all, this EP isn’t just showing Mija as a DJ/Producer, but as an artist who’s got her feet firmly planted in the indie scene, all while dreaming big and keeping things real.
