When you think of the sunny days, trips to the beach and the festivals of 2019 what song comes to mind?. While many publicists and labels are often touting their artists’ songs the next summer anthem, few ever actually amount to it. Spotify has access to all our listening behaviour and has now revealed exactly who took the crown on their platform this year.
We give a tip of the (cowboy) hat to breakout rapper-singer Lil Nas X, whose “Old Town Road” took off in the Spring – as both a meme and a hit song – and the remix featuring Billy Ray Cyrus is the summer’s fourth most-streamed track globally now with over 626 Million streams.
Rising star Billie Eilish landed in third place thanks to her hit “bad guy” a track off her album ‘When We All Fall Asleep, Where Do We Go?’. The single has almost hit 750 million streams since its release.
Coming in second is the mega collaboration between Ed Sheeran and Justin Bieber with “I Don’t Care”. This one had all the right ingredients to be #1 as it saw the US and the UK princes of pop combine, it has over 560 Million streams to date. So who then came first?
Shawn Mendes and Camila Cabello who turned up the heat with “Señorita,” their second collaboration. The single released on June 21 and now has 565 million streams on Spotify alone and meanwhile simmered atop Spotify’s Global Top 50 chart for eight straight weeks.
