Deezer Releases End of Year Stats with #MyDeezerYear

It’s that time of the year again. For those of us in the Northern Hemisphere, the air is a bit crisper. The leaves have fallen. Birds are nonexistent. The souls stuck in the northernmost reaches watch the snowflakes trickle down to accumulate in mass. This also means that the Holiday season is right around the corner, but that’s not what we care about. It’s stat season aka the time of the year that DSPs, artists, labels, and tastemakers drop their accumulated data points, highlighting their tastes, trends, and discovery. We have received the end of year numbers from our friends at Deezer including their individual user numbers dubbed #MyDeezerYear and their always popular user BPM synthesis, “Animal Rhythm”.

Deezer users now until January will have access to their personal insights through #MyDeezerYear. It gives access to each user’s favorite song of the year, a collection of their most streamed songs, and other personal streaming habits. Back by fervorous demand, is also “Animal Rhythm”, Deezer’s analysis of each user’s average BPM that is then paired to a corresponding animal’s internal BPM aka their heartbeat. The furry feline clawed its way to the top spot with a BPM of 131-132 becoming the animal king for Deezer users. The Giraffe with a BPM of 140-149 was number 2 and also took home the top spot in the countries of Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, and Guatemala. Man’s Best Friend, the canine, took home the number 3 spot with the BPM range of 127-128.

Sorting through the data, some points of interest stand out. The Top Track of 2020 was last year’s smash hit “Dance Monkey” from Tones and I. It carried it’s 2019 traction through to this year and took home Deezer’s top spot. Interestingly enough, two other 2019 hits retained their interest to also land in the Top 10 Songs of the Year, Imanbek’s remix of “Roses” from SAINt JHN and The Weeknd’s “Blinding Lights” spurred on by the release of After Hours, which beat out Pop Smoke’s Shoot For The Stars Aim For The Moon, Dua Lipa’s Future Nostalgia and Lady Gaga’s Chromatica for the title of Most Streamed Album.

J Balvin continues his cross-cultural dominance. For the third year running, he is Deezer’s Most Streamed Artist beating out The Weeknd and Deezer’s 2020 Most Streamed Female Artist, Dua Lipa. To take home the female streaming crown, Dua Lipa beat out last year’s winner Ariana Grande and the global superstars, Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga. While The Weeknd missed out on the top spot for Most Stream Artist, he does take home the title of Top Trendsetter. The award to the artist who receives the most streams on release day.

In a surprising twist, Eminem beat out the KPop Kings, BTS, for the number 1 spot for Biggest superfans. This title is given to the artist that has the highest stream tally from his, her, or their top users. Unsurprisingly, comedy reigned in the podcast category, highlighting our need to laugh through the pandemic. The top spot went to Podcast king Joe Rogan.

Deezer has also curated the Best of 2020 channel to provide users easy access to the best of what this crazy year had to offer. You’ll find all the top streamed tunes, and artists of the year. You’ll also find personal playlists from the editors that define their 2020. Your #MyDeezerYear will also be live beside it, providing the individual experience for all of us to rewind on our year.
