Rising singer-songwriter INTRN is back with his first single of 2021, the timely “Get To You.” Known for his self-proclaimed “not-so-sad sad boi” aesthetic, with songs about love lost and dwelling on the past, INTRN grants listeners with a bit of optimistic comradery.
The song is an undeniable ear-worm, with INTRN’s characteristic lo-fi-esque beats acting as a backdrop for poignant lyrics about a kind of loneliness that we are all feeling right now. With a chorus wishing to be able to see the one he misses most, the verses carry a slightly more hopeful tone. “Someday this will end and we’ll be on to something new,” he muses, a refreshing reminder from the usually melancholy singer that even in our sadness, it doesn’t have to last forever.
The project of San Diego singer-songwriter Jake Messig, “Get To You” is INTRN’s first release since last year’s wonderful “New Distractions” EP. We love to see him coming into his own as an artist and continuing to show us why he should be on your radar in 2021.
