Chelsea Cutler & Alexander 23 Release Heartfelt, Mellow Single, ‘Lucky’

0

There’s hardly a songstress who has that magical ability to tug at heartstrings with every single release like Chelsea Cutler can. The Connecticut native further teases her debut LP (coming Jan 2020) with a mellow single with Alexander 23, titled ‘Lucky’. Simple, heartfelt lyrics complement laidback and slow production in this stunning love ballad.

Chelsea’s charismatic voice is accompanied by the most inconspicuously harmonic guitar riff, soon followed by a feature from her collaborator. The instrumental production only comes to life in the latter half of the song, when a short drop boasts violin-like melodies crooning amidst a slow backdrop of future bass beats.

Yet, what stands out in this tune is not the production or the instrumentation, but the vocals and lyrics instead. Expressing her gratitude for that special someone, Chelsea sings ‘how lucky am I to love someone like you?’

As with most songs of hers, this one has a special meaning too. In an extended description of the song over Twitter, Chelsea writes: “despite the pain of losing my best friend, I will always feel so lucky to have loved and been loved like that.” It’s this very authenticity in her story which is clearly evident throughout the two and a half minutes of ‘Lucky’.

Armin van Buuren Releases Stacked ‘Balance’ Album

0

The Dutch Superstar released his seventh studio album entitled ‘Balance’ which according to him is a venture into known and unknown territories while striking to find a balance in between. Since his previous LP ‘Embrace’, van Buuren has kept a busy touring schedule, released a string of remixes and singles and even hosted a Heiniken F1 Event in Shanghai. Conceptualized as a double record with a staggering collection of 28 tracks, ‘Balance’ solidifies his legacy as a true dance music wizard.

Including collaborations with the likes of Inner City, James Newman, and Sam Martin, the album contains a diverse assemblage of vibes and flavours. The lead single ‘Unlove You’ featuring R&B legend Ne-Yo starts with a mellow harmonic progression that suddenly bursts into “Tell me where tell me where what the hell they do that, we went from hugs to kissing to making love”. A deep house influenced bassline topped with a robust kick pattern supports Ne-Yo silky vocal range until the tune fades into the pre-chorus. Without reservations, van Buuren infuses his trademark trance sound contrasting with the joyful atmosphere created by the song’s pop arrangement.

On tunes such as ‘Therapy’ and ‘It Could Be’, the dutchman bridges the gap between electronic music and traditional songwriting techniques but still manages to create a distinct vibe. ‘Sex, Love and Water’ flashes crispy funky guitar riffs in the style of Earth, Wind & Fire. Mellow horn lines and moving lyrical prose that embraces sexuality and positivity are felt throughout the production.

‘Show me Love’, the offspring of a joint effort with Above and Beyond conveys the nostalgic feeling from the early 2000s displaying gloomy hypnotic melodies, sizzling percussive hits, and an uplifting breakdown. On ‘Always’, alongside BT and Nation One, van Buuren expertly blends hi-tech synth elements accompanied by angelical operatic textures a la Amy Lee.

‘Balance’ is a sonic journey that travels through time, honoring van Buuren’s humble beginnings as a Trance DJ and highlights his talent as a distinctive songwriter with a neck for creating top-charting tunes. Even though it feels long and stale at times, it represents a quest for the Dutch producer to step outside of his comfort zone and experiment into new musical realms.

Armin van Buuren has a packed upcoming schedule including touring Australia for Festival X Nov 29 – Dec 1.

Felix Jaehn, Mesto & VCATION Come Together For ‘Never Alone’

Hit maker Felix Jaehn and Spinnin’ superstar Mesto come together for the first time. The duo tap Swedish talents VCATION for vocals.

Felix Jaehn has had a number of triumphs, most notably his rework of Cheerleader. Mesto has also hits – primarily in the underground dance scene, collaborations with Tiesto, Martin Garrix and Mike Williams come to mind.

‘Never Alone’ was written in collaboration with VCATION, a duo many might recognize based on their individual artistic contributions. Made up of Swedish House Mafia & Martin Garrix song writers, John Martin & Michel Zitron, VCATION lends their golden touch, alongside Dutch wunderkind Mesto.

The track address a universal struggle as well as delving into mental health awareness. The four artists reworked their feelings and emotions into a track ready for the festival scene as well as maintaining commercial appeal for the mass.

‘I felt lonely before, but now understand that I’m never actually alone. If you go through this world with an open heart you will find countless beautiful souls to connect with, no matter who you are and where you go. You are never alone!’ Felix Jaehn

I’m always on the lookout for new artists who bring a fresh perspective to the game. Many new projects aren’t destined for success, but every so often, I catch one that holds an unbelievable amount of potential. Such is the case with nodisco., a Toronto-based newcomer to dance music, who recently dropped his debut single, ‘Thoughts From Your Car’.

Stemming from a moment of anxiety in the studio, the song itself twists the negative emotion into a charming, upbeat message of finding your way in life. With pounding, energetic drums complemented by a wistful electric guitar, Thoughts From Your Car exudes a sense of yearning combined with positivity in an almost The 1975-esque style. Charismatic, raw vocals lead the way through the rollercoaster of verses and choruses, leaving the listener with a personal attachment to the artist’s story at the end of the nearly four-minute-long tune.

Definitely a name you want to keep your eyes out for in the near future, nodisco. shows promise with his debut single, which you can stream below.

FARR Twist Pop, Soul and Electronic Sounds in ‘Paranoid’

0

With a slew of successful releases in their discography, FARR bring quality again in their new release ‘Paraniod’. With an impressive music video and of course the stellar track – this release has potential written all over it.

From LA and London, this duo met back in 2016 and have been killing it since. This time round, FARR bring a fearless twist to alternative pop and electronic soul music that transcends time in ‘Paranoid’.

Vocalist Roméo brings powerful vocals to the table while producer Linden Jay lends his alternative, electronic ear. Despite the distance, the two have managed to stay connected and write through voice memos between studio sessions. What was born was a hypnotic mix of global styles that features a modern edge and classic feel.

“Paranoid” is a song that examines the anxiety that comes with feeling like you do not have control of your own life. Roméo explains, “A couple years back Linden and I were in London around Glastonbury weekend. We hadn’t seen each other in a few months and had a bunch of music to catch up on so we started a few new ideas. That same day my ex was going out with some of my friends for my best friend’s birthday and I had this pit in my stomach that she was gonna try to sleep with one of them. I spent the whole night in the studio freaking out, checking my phone every five minutes, and Linden started playing this organ in his studio kitchen. We started going back and forth and ended up with ‘Paranoid’, which is essentially about my incessant day to day worrying. It’s an anxiety anthem.”

Breathe Carolina Announce New Album, Drop First Single “Too Good”

0

Breathe Carolina are a bit of a strange case; the former emo-pop band were once a Warped Tour staple, drawing a fan base of the most colorful scene kids. They gradually shifted into more electronic-based sounds, until a few lineup changes prompted a complete 180-degree shift as they broke into the EDM scene full-swing. Mostly, the group has had success. Tracks like the festival mainstay “Rhythm is a Dancer” have solidified their place as heavy-hitters in the genre. Now, the boys are back with a brand new single “Too Good.”

“Too Good” is the first single from Breathe Carolina’s highly-anticipated new album. Various social media posts have prompted excitement from many of the groups OG fans. “Our new album is LITERALLY 2009-2012 emo meets 2019 production / house music. It is ….. it is fucking glorious,” reads a post from their official Facebook page. This new single definitely proves that. Vocals from founding member David Schmitt harken back to his years as the emo frontman, while the production brings the sound into the modern pop era. If this single is any indication, the new album is going to bring fans new and old together for one of Breathe Carolina’s most radio-ready moments.

Ariana Grande, Miley Cyrus, Lana Del Rey Team Up For Charlie’s Angels Soundtrack ‘Don’t Call Me Angel’

0

Teased in the initial trailer for the Charlie’s Angels reboot, the three way collaboration is now here – a month before the worldwide release of the film. The upcoming movie stars notable actors; Naomi Scott, Kristen Stewart, Elizabeth Banks and Patrick Stewart.

Combining this star power is bound to shake the music industry and become an immediate success. The track from the get go is powerful and has a perfect mix of all artists.

The music video depicts the trio with angel wings… unsurprisingly. They are also Charlie’s Angels, secret agents. Although the movie will not have the agents in wings, this video does demonstrate it. In order to tie it into the film, Elizabeth Banks (the director, screenplay writer and who plays Bosley) shows up at the end of the clip to send them off on their next mission.

‘Don’t Call Me Angel’ was directed by Hannah Lux Davis. The Washington native is the mastermind behind some of today’s artists’ most memorable videos, including Demi Lovato’s ‘Sorry Not Sorry’ and Kacey Musgraves’ ‘High Horse’. She has also worked with Grande before on the visuals for songs such as ‘7 Rings’ and ‘Break Up With Your Girlfriend, I’m Bored’.

Otto Knows Drops Fun New Single “About You”

Otto Knows is back again with a sure hit that will help you keep those summer vibes going well into the fall. “About You” comes as a third new single from the native Swede this year, and serves as a mark of the producer’s new pop-forward take on music after an extended hiatus.

Due in part to the untimely death of longtime friend and collaborator Avicii, Otto’s hiatus was a much-needed breather from at times stifling music scene. This year’s new music proves it was also a re-defining period for the musician, as 2019 sees him shedding his festival progressive house sound for a more radio-ready vibe that we’re definitely digging. With an immediately catchy vocal, a bright, bubbly beat, and light violin drop in the chorus, “About You” is nothing but pure happiness, something we’re happy to hear from Otto Knows these days.

Known for his iconic 2012 house hit “Million Voices” Otto continued his meteoric rise with tracks like “Next to Me” and the Avicii-assisted “Back Where I Belong.” Keep an eye out for new show dates and new music, and stream “About You” now.
