Spotify Introduces Direct Music Uploads

It’s been revealed that Spotify has introduced a Beta for artists to be able to upload their music directly into Spotify which bypasses not only the need for a label but also a distributor. The feature is currently only available to select artists at this point, so should this update roll out to its whole user-base it’ll be bad news for German based Soundcloud.

However Soundcloud is a great platform for Artists to experiment and get feedback on their sounds and Spotify for the time being won’t have the same social networking benefit for an artist to connect with fans and see what they think!

This good news for artists though as they can keep a bigger share in the profits of their music on Spotify, However they’ll still need to use distributors if you want to reach other competing stores such as Apple Music, Beatport, iTunes, Deezer and Amazon.

The feature is rolling out in beta by “invitation to a few hundred US-based independent artists, but we’re excited to bring upload to even more artists, labels, and teams in the future.” With it being selectively released over the coming months.
