ShockOne Links Up With The Bloody Beetroots for Dystopian Bass Production

0

Based in Perth, Australia, ShockOne has been releasing a slew of singles of his upcoming album ‘A Dark Machine‘. The latest single is ‘Run‘ together with The Bloody Beetroots.

‘Run‘ is the perfect collaboration in which each artist’s trademark elements are felt in the production. With some drum and bass characteristics from ShockOne mixed with The Bloody Beetroots’ gritty and electronic sounds, this collaboration has it all. From the moment that ‘Run’ opens with undulating, cinematic synths, you know you’re in for a wild ride; the drop delivers driving basslines and ominous vocal clips, building a dystopian atmosphere that is depicted in stunning visuals in its accompanying music video.

“I couldn’t be happier to join the Monstercat roster. It’s a brand known for pushing boundaries and a label releasing some of the most forward-thinking releases for my genre of music. It really is the perfect home for A Dark Machine and excited to have them work this record to every corner of the world alongside my long term home label Warner Music.”ShockOne

Since releasing ‘Universus‘ in 2013, ShockOne has been quiet on the LP front – that changes on August 1st with the release of ‘A Dark Machine‘ through Monstercat.

Kygo Drops Surprise Posthumous Whitney Houston Featuring “Higher Love”

Kygo revealed earlier this week a cryptic cover of the artwork for his new release “Higher Love” which now he has revealed features previously unreleased vocals from the early 90’s recorded by Whitney Houston. Initially meant for her album at the time, the version didn’t make the final cut and sat locked up until now according to a short clip shared by Kygo as a teaser video for the release.

Following on from Rita Ora featuring “Carry On”, Kygo’s added his signature chilled melodic tropical flavour to the powerful vocals, turning it into a summer sounds that brings Houston’s iconic voice to life for the first time following the singers tragic passing in 2012.

Electric Forest 2019 Most See & Anticipated Acts

0

This week, an estimated 45,000 attendees are gearing up for the sold-out 8th rendition of Electric Forest, a 4-day arts and music festival in Rothbury, Michigan. Headlining this year are:

Odesza – Setting the tone for the weekend, the chart-topping chill-wave duo from Bellingham, Washington will greet the crowd with a euphoric welcome on Thursday night. While they may also surprise with some harder sounds like “Loyal”

Kygo – Friday night, the Norwegian producer credited with popularizing the term “tropical house” will take the stage. Having recently collaborated with Rita Ora on “Carry On” and also today dropping a Whitney Houston featuring remake of “Higher Love”

Bassnectar – an entity that has become something greater than the music and arguably life itself to his ever-loyal bassheads, Bassnectar will be performing at the peak of the weekend on Saturday night.

Zed’s Dead – last but certainly not least, the OG dubstep duo from Toronto will close out the festival on Saturday night.

Aside from the headliners, here is a list of most anticipated acts you might have missed in the undercard:

CharlestheFirst – a newcomer on the scene from the Bay Area, CharlestheFirst got his name on the radar with his 2018 album “The Ascent” and is known for his immersive sound design and atmospheric basslines. He will be joining the Bass Rush-curated lineup at the Tripolee stage alongside dub and bass legends Caspa and 12th planet for a b2b set with Thriftworks on Friday, as well as have his own set late Saturday evening at the Jubilee stage.

Claude von stroke – the LA-based house favorite and his label Dirtybird Records does a lot of the heavy lifting for house and techno roster on this year’s lineup. He will be taking the stage at Sherwood Court on Saturday night. Other Dirtybird acts on the lineup include Hannah Wants and Escapade (project of Ardalan and Walker & Royce).

Crooked Colours – following the release of their sophomore album last month, the indie-electronica group from Perth, Australia has been gaining traction for their hypnotic vocals and lush sound, often compared to the likes of Glass Animals and Tame Impala. Catch their set before they blow up on Friday night at the Observatory.

Ekali – part of Skrillex’s OWSLA collective, the Canadian producer made waves with his collab with Zhu on “Blame”. Although still a third-tier artist, Ekali is on his way up. He will be opening for Nghtmre and Slander Thursday night at the Tripolee stage.

Gramatik – the trip-hop influenced producer from Slovenia returns to Electric Forest this year, curiously without either of his frequent counterparts Big Gigantic or Griz (collectively known as Big Grizmatik). Rumors and suspicions are circulating around his set, however, as Griz is known for treating his fans to surprise appearances at the Forest. Gramatik will be performing Friday evening before Odesza at the Ranch Arena.

Honey Dijon – a success story hailing from the Chicago underground house scene, Honey Dijon has maintained a cult following for her genre-bending sets as well as her fashion presence and trans rights activism. Catch her closing out the Carousel Club Saturday night.

Jantsen – this up-and-coming producer from Boulder, Colorado is known for his tight ties with Bassnectar, and garnered hype around his collaboration with Griz on his track “Bring it Back”, dropped at the inaugural Hijinx Festival over New Year’s weekend. Catch him at Jubilee on Saturday afternoon.

Seven Lions – the Santa Barbara, California native trance producer and cult favorite returns to the forest for the first time in five years, and his presence will undoubtedly be made known to anyone and everyone via logo’d totems, flags, tattoos, etc. You can catch his much-anticipated set closing out Tripolee on Sunday night.

STS9 – short for “Sound Tribe Sector 9”, the Santa Cruz-based electronic jam band maintains a niche following, yet large enough to headline the likes of Red Rocks Ampitheater. They also caused quite a commotion on the r/electricforest subreddit in the form of an auto bot when the band was not added to last year’s lineup. They will be performing Saturday night at Sherwood Court.

Tokimonsta – a producer from LA, Tokimonsta entered the scene in the early 2010’s when she was signed to Flying Lotus’ label Brainfeeder, but has recently gained notoriety for her Grammy-nominated album Lune Rouge, featuring her single “Don’t Call Me” with singer Yuna. Catch her set Saturday evening at the Tripolee stage.

GRiZ Looks Back To His Origins On New Club EP Titled Bangers[1].Zip

0

Just two months after the release of Ride Waves, his most creative and collaborative studio album to date, GRiZ returns with his Bangers[1].Zip EP –‘Voodoo (feat. SUPERLOVE)’, ‘No Bad Trips’ and ’Ice Cream’, all reminiscent of his heady bass sound with shades of reggae and dubstep. He brings his infamous energy across the pond to the UK for a number of festival appearances in July. GRiZ will then return to the States to the iconic Red Rocks Amphitheatre in Denver, for his fifth year of sold-out double-headers, performing foundational favourites from his 2010-2017 catalogue on the 30th August, and a special Ride Waves / new music showcase on August 31, ahead of embarking on Season Two of his Ride Waves tour.

GRiZ’s musical history has seen him take a sonic journey through future-funk, glitch-hop, dubstep, soul and beyond, with this next batch of releases staying true to his eclectic style whilst hinting at a more club-leaning approach. The lead track ‘Voodoo (feat. SUPERLOVE)’ is a feel-good reggae jam, sliced up by heavy dubstep drops and lyrical references to black magic and shamans. ‘No Bad Trips’ follows in the same vein, with the prevalence of a signature funky horn section and cuts of head-banging sub-bass frequencies. Fans may recognize ‘Ice Cream’, a track he’s been previewing across Season One of his tour. At Detroit’s Movement, GRiZ waded through a massive crowd in Hart Plaza with a mobile ice cream cart, passing out treats to fans as the track looped over the speakers.

Seven Lions Works His Magic On A Festival Mix Of Single ‘Let Go’

0

Fans are often surprised (and unfortunately many times underwhelmed) when an artist takes a step out of his/her own comfort zone to experiment with different downtempo styles. When Seven Lions dropped Let Go, a vocal ballad with Fiora, many loved the creative approach the song took, yet wanted a more upbeat version. And Seven Lions has delivered exactly that.

The Festival Mix of this tune (which was part of a 4 track EP with Fiora released in 2018) sees a similar, downtempo intro, but it ends on a miraculous progressive house / melodic dubstep combination of melodies and synths. Reminiscient of a previous single of his, ‘Steps of Deep Slumber’, in terms of the styles and sounds incorporated, this tune shows off a strong bassline along with some festival-prog-house leads, with a tinge of the metallic Seven Lions supersaw. As the song moves into half tempo, a slow feel to the melodic dubstep part complements the sentiments of the original perfectly.

Seven Lions isn’t slowing down any time soon, as he has just launched his brand new psytrance alias with psytrance artists Dimibo, called Abraxis. Their first headline show is coming up, as part of the absolutely stacked Dreamstate SoCal lineup.

Wynn Vegas Tease Swedish House Mafia Residency?

0

A few weeks ago, Steve Angello and Sebastian Ingrosso were set to perform at their XS Las Vegas residency, however Sebastian Ingrosso did not perform. This proposedly lead on to Swedish House Mafia pulling out of Ultra Korea.

Now, Wynn – this owners of the XS brand are teasing something that has very similar branding with Swedish House Mafia. The video, posted on their Instagram, looks like its teasing a new artist residency to be announced on June 25th.

With the branding being very close to Swedish House Mafia’s, either Wynn have actually secured the Swedish trio as a resident or a least one show, or they are using this branding to their advantage. Using similar blocky text, white and black elements and therefore creating the buzz, has led to great PR and marketing for their announcements, whether or not it’s actually SHM.

Whether or not its an announcement or the act performing on Tuesday – we’ll find out tomorrow. People have mentioned that Wynn will be closed on Tuesday, therefore it’s likely to just be an announcement. According to a promoter, they will be playing on the 30th of June – which is currently booked in as a Steve Angello show at XS. With this evidence, it’s definitely plausible that the Angello show could turn into a SHM one. We will see come Tuesday.

ARMNHMR deliver magical melodic bass tune, ‘Hello, Goodbye’

0

If you haven’t heard of melodic bass act ARMNMHR yet, I envy you, because after reading this article, you’re going to end up going through their entire discography of stunning gems, crafted by their very own hands. The newest of the lot (and their 8th in 2019) is a melodic bass collaboration with Heather Sommer, released on Thursday.

ARMNHMR craft their production of this tune around the vocal recording; Heather Sommer’s voice stands out through the majority of the song, flowing intricately along with some guitar and percussion. The drop adopts a melodic future bass approach, with heavy reverb and metallic, white-noise filled synths, rather than the soaring wide supersaws you might expect in a melodic dubstep song.

These guys can’t seem to do any wrong, and as proof of that, I’ve compiled my favorite selection of their songs; check it out below!
