Mel Ody Reimagines Timeless Classic “Feeling Good”

0

Marking his debut on Killabite Media, Mel Ody recently recruited Canadian singer-songwriter Arielle Minx to reimagine the timeless classic, “Feeling Good.” Most commonly recognized by its renditions from artists spanning all genres such as Michael Bublé, Muse, NGHTMRE, and Slander, the single is an undisputed anthem that is still a household name.

This time, Mel Ody spotlights his knack for combining orchestral and electronic elements perfectly by infusing brass stabs and string melodies with gritty basslines and hard-knocking drums. Arielle Minx’s electric and authentic vocals perfectly overlay the playful instrumental, resulting in a sound that is powerful and addicting.

Mel Ody and Arielle Minx’s cover delivers hope and happiness through sexy and uplifting sonics, feelings that people need more than ever in this tough time in history.

I’ve been loving this song since I was a kid and tried to recreate it many times; the production I came up with along with the stunning performance by Arielle Minx felt really special to me.

Charlotte de Witte Showcases Two Sides of Her Production Abilities With ‘Hold That Sucker Down’ Remixes

Widely acclaimed Techno starlet Charlotte de Witte presents not one but two brand-new renditions of Jerome Isma-Ae’s ‘Hold That Sucker Down’. The two versions come in the forms of a Rave Remix and Trance Remix – set to appease Techno lovers and Trance enthusiasts alike.

Charlotte de Witte: “Remixing a classic is something that always feels extremely honorable and rewarding to me. While remixing Jerome Isma-Ae, I decided to aim for two different remixes. One would respect the massive trance lead and vibe of the original, while the other would be faster and more stripped down, bringing forward the techno that I love so much.”

Turning Jerome Isma-Ae’s spin on The O.T. Quartet’s 1994 original into a nostalgia-infused floor-thriller, the Belgian tastemaker does what she does best; crafting up records for the sole purpose of dance floor domination. Charlotte de Witte has further solidified herself as one of the most exciting techno projects right now and with these remixes, she has expanded her artistry to Armada and their fans, especially with her trance mix.

Jason Ross Drops First Set Of Remixes For Debut Album, ‘1000 Faces’

0

Following a successful quarter-year-old debut album, melodic bass maestro Jason Ross has released the first of two sets of inventive takes on his records, courtesy of AWAKEND, Just A Gent and Matt Fax. The diversity in these three reworks embodies the diversity on ‘1000 Faces’ itself; AWAKEND goes the melodic bass route, Just A Gent dabbles with experimental trap, while Matt Fax employs his progressive house charm.

To those who don’t find themselves immersed in the EDM circles, these names might be unfamiliar, but they are sure to make an indelible impression on you. Just A Gent reinvents the ambient ‘Leave Me To Wonder’ into a 808-filled, eerie soundscape, with samples from the original abound. Meanwhile, AWAKEND proves himself as a name to be reckoned with in the melodic bass genre, with a lilting and charming take on a hit single, ‘When The Night Falls’. Lastly, ahead of his LP this Friday, Matt Fax tackles the titular track with a simple yet memorable melody and a gritty bassline that’ll keep you engrossed for four minutes straight.

Keep your eyes peeled for the second part to the ‘1000 Faces’ remixes that’s right over the horizon.

Nicky Romero Lends His Talents to Martin Garrix & Clinton Kane’s ‘Drown’

The second remix to be released for Martin Garrix and Clinton Kane’s new hit is from non other than Nicky Romero. ‘Drown’ isn’t the first Garrix track Nicky Romero has taken on for a rework, remixing his single ‘Dreamer’ with Mike Yung Back in 2018.

Just a week after releasing his banging ‘Redefine’ EP, Romero lends his talents to ‘Drown’. Romero injected his signature progressive sound into the original. Leaving Clinton Kane’s wonderful vocal unaltered, Romero enhanced it with uplifting melodies and a drop that will stick with you.

With Matroda kicking off the official remixes of ‘Drown’ last week, Martin Garrix’s collaboration with Clinton Kane will surely live on longer, with other remixes still to come.

Remix Radar 037: Featuring Sultan + Shepard, Yotto, and Tiesto

0

We’re back! I hope everyone had a great Valentine’s Day and spent it with a special someone. We were also blessed with a new Tame Impala album, which was leaked online previously. I’ve listened to it a few times already and have discovered new and interesting sounds each time. It’s a great record and I suggest everyone gives it at least a listen. In other news, we have a great Remix Radar for you. I have quite a few tracks in this edition that I love and will surely play quite often. The big boys we feature this week are Sultan + Shepard, Yotto, and Tiesto. Enjoy!

Lustral – Everytime (Sultan + Shepard Remix)

British electronic legends, Lustral, released “Everytime” over two decades ago where it became a club hit. Over the years they’ve released a few remixes of the record, but we just got a new one. The newest comes from Sultan + Shepard who spin a lush progressive remix that sends listeners on a synth-y wave.

Joris Voorn – Antigone (Yotto Remix)

The second remix for Joris Voorn’s \\\\ comes from the Finnish mastermind, Yotto. The “Antigone” remix is breathtaking and is truly a remarkable piece of music and rivals the original in emotional connectivity.

Halsey – You should be sad (Tiesto Remix)

Not going to lie this is included because of the star power on the record. Halsey’s smash country-pop single gets the Tiesto remix treatment to continue the promotional campaign.

John K. – if we never met (Sigala Remix)

A gooey melodic remix from Sigala. It’s full of warm and happy textures that melt together to form a playful sound. It works really well as a chill, groovy commercial track.

Casper Cole Ft. Elderbrook – I Want It All (Route 94 Remix)

“I Want It All” has been making quite a few waves. What better way to continue the party than dropping a Route 94 remix. This version is best described as a refined house boogie.

Robosonic & EPMD – For The People (Sonny Fodera Remix)

There are certain tracks that ooze coolness from the click of play. This is one of those tracks.

Kidnap Ft. Leo Stannard – Moments (Ben Böhmer & Nils Hoffmann Remix)

An absolutely stunning remix of “Moments”. It’s so wonderfully constructed it elicits a strong emotional response similar to the first time I heard the original Kidnap version. Great job, Ben Böhmer and Nils Hoffmann.

Armin van Buuren vs. Tempo Giusto – Mr. Navigator (Sevenn Remix)

Typically, I try to avoid featuring remixes of the same track, but when I clicked play on Sevenn’s remix…IT HAD TO BE INCLUDED. Sevenn brings puncturing energy to Mr. Navigator that sends shockwaves through the body.

Georgia – Never Let You Go (Prospa Remix)

Whoever is behind the A&R job for Georgia’s “Never Let You Go” remix pack deserves a pat on the back and a pay raise. Excellent sounds all around. This week’s version is a soaring DnB version from Prospa.

Kraak & Smaak Ft. Satchmode – Don’t Want This to Be Over (Jean Tonique Remix)

The most recent Kraak & Smaak song gets a psychedelic remix from Jean Tonique. It’s such an intoxicating grooviness that can’t help, but bleed into listeners and send them careening through each lick of sound.

Catching Flies – Kite Hill Theme (Freddie Joachim Remix)

Freddie Joachim creates a magical remix of “Kite Hill Theme”. The Catching Flies original transforms from a slow, rumbling, cinematic experimental tune to a mesmerizing blend of electronic, jazz, and funk. Freddie completely flips this into something that radiates warmth.

TCTS Ft. Maya B – Not Ready For Love (Zac Samuel Remix)

Zac Samuel adds an enchanting piano line and some sticky textures to TCTS’s “Not Ready For Love” to bring a new version to life. This one will get stuck in your head and you’ll be singing the chorus for days to come.

Sikdope – Follow (ATRIP Remix)

ATRIP takes a fierce approach on his remix of Sikdope’s “Follow”. The low growl of bass hits just right and with mind-melting effect.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

Mercury Rev – Senses On Fire (James Holden Remix)

All the way from 2008 comes the inventive James Holden remix of “Senses On Fire” from Mercury Rev. James warps the track into a nearly 10-minute long tune that bumbles and pops with distorted growls, sharp synths, and entrancing energy. It will transfix the mind as listeners embrace the sonic journey.

Steve Aoki Provides His Remix Treatment To R3HAB & ZAYN’s ‘Flames’

0

Just a few months after its original release, R3HAB, ZAYN, and Jungleboi’s acclaimed collaboration “Flames” got a remix by the two-time Grammy-nominated producer/DJ Steve Aoki. Trading the original’s soothing beats for funky breakdowns and driving basslines, Steve Aoki flips “Flames” on its head and makes it ready for a night out. ZAYN’s infamously velvety vocals remain primarily intact for the remix, adding a sensual touch to this dancefloor killer. The single was one of R3HAB’s most talked-about releases from 2019, demonstrating his dynamic process as a producer who is at home experimenting with many different sounds. Now roping in the legendary producer/DJ for remix duties, R3HAB is truly taking it to the next level in the new decade.

Steve Aoki and I go way back to my early days of touring and releasing music. With “Flames” being one of my most significant releases to date, I couldn’t be happier that Steve has agreed to make this remix of the song. It’s a real original twist on the track – which is what a remix should be, of course! It’s fire, so enjoy!” – R3HAB

It was a lot of fun remixing this one for R3HAB, Jungleboi, and ZAYN. Such a massive track, I had to make more of a club vibe for it. Let’s see your dance choreography, and all the DJs bang it out in the club! – Steve Aoki

Remix Radar: 033 Featuring Party Pupils, Dom Dolla, and Yultron

0

It looks like the music industry has awakened from its Winter slumber. Last week had major releases from Eminem, Halsey, Jonas Brothers, and a posthumous release from Mac Miller. We also received new dance releases from Steve Aoki, Mura Masa, and Zeds Dead. This “awakening” also trickled down to remix releases, which means Remix Radar has quite a few tasty treats. We feature Party Pupils, Dom Dolla, and Yultron. Plus many more delicious tunes for you to discover.

MAX Ft. Chromeo – Checklist (Party Pupils Remix)

An absolute JAM! Party Pupils brings an extra layer of funk that’s driven by house vibes to MAX and Chromeo’s “Checklist”. It’s playful with warmth and depth that will work across a spectrum of dancefloors and venues.

MK & Sonny Fodera Ft. Raphaella – One Night (Dom Dolla Remix)

Dom Dolla unleashes a darker sound upon MK and Sonny Fodera’s “One Night”. The steeliness and deepness really transform this into something completely different and more accessible to grimy club sets.

DJ Snake & Eptic – SouthSide (YULTRON Remix)

This remix is exploding on the Internet and the streaming world. Yultron brings his trademark hyper-explosive sound to DJ Snake and Eptic’s “SouthSide” and it’s everything you need to get hyped.

Armin van Buuren vs. Tempo Giusto – Mr. Navigator (i_o Remix)

With Armin van Buuren exploring a darker, more industrial sound on “Mr. Navigator” it feels fitting to see i_o be the one to remix it. While overall the dark, thumping vibe remains, i_o does bring a new imaging that sees this remix become ready for dimly lit techno warehouses.

Mr. Tape & Kaskade – Come On (Chris Moody Remix)

Chris Moody brings an absolute vibe to “Come On”. He remixes the Mr. Tape and Kaskade track to have a sexier, house beat that creates an infectious groove. A perfect pick-me-up for any party or event.

King Princess – Hit The Back (Channel Tres Remix)

Is there any current artist that is creating anything more groovy than Channel Tres? It doesn’t matter if it’s an original or remix, the man is a goldmine of great tracks. His remix of King Princess continues his long streak of songs that have a feeling or natural pull for listeners. It’s intoxicating.

R+ & Dido – My Boy (Shadow Child Mix)

R+ (or R Plus) and Dido have been in the midst of releasing a stellar remix pack of their track, “My Boy” with MEDUZA kicking things off. Most recently, Shadow Child brings us his version, which in short, is tantalizing. The remix has an irresistible charm and feeling to it that I really enjoy. Another stellar piece of music from Shadow Child.

Neon Indian – Toyota Man (Mr. Frankel, Cigar Cigarette Remix)

No idea why they titled the remix “Mr. Frankel, Cigar Cigarette”, besides the obvious that Mr. Frankel represents Alex Frankel who provided the remix. Overall, I love this remix and its trippiness.

Overcoats – Leave If You Wanna (Ryan Hemsworth Remix)

Indie-pop darlings, Overcoats, become a muse to Ryan Hemsworth and his creative genius. He brings a fresh, original sound to “Leave If You Wanna” that isn’t quite like anything else out there. In this case, it’s a good thing.

Ben Böhmer & Monolink – Black Hole (Gui Boratto Rework)

Ben Böhmer and Monolink’s “Black Hole” receives two great remixes from Gui Boratto and Martin Roth. My favorite is Gui Boratto who brings an emphasis to the guitar rift, which unlocks new energy and transforms “Black Hole” into a whole new song. Another fresh sound.

Hannah Wants – Love Somebody (Eskuche Remix)

Eskuche unveils a club-banger with his remix of “Love Somebody” from Hannah Wants. Everything about this production is excellent. It oozes the right amount of bass, has a sexy vocal chop, groovy drum programming, and arpeggiated synths. I could listen to this all day.

Sem Thomasson – Grey Zone (Simon Ray Remix)

Sem Thomasson’s “Grey Zone” gets a little more rambunctious and house-y from Simon Ray’s remix. The remix has a delightful piano bit that leads into a swelling build that locks listeners into the wave.

Sono – Keep Control (ARTBAT Remix)

Arguably my favorite remix of the week. ARTBAT provides a spacy remix of Sono’s “Keep Control”. The sound is infectious and is a vibe that I can’t get enough of.

Kings Of The Rollers – You Got Me (S.P.Y Remix)

“Wubs” meet Drum ‘N Bass. S.P.Y dials the heat-up and unleashes a sound that pulls listeners into its all-consuming wave. I could get into an explosion of DnB.

ONE FROM THE VAULT

Holy Ghost! – Crime Cutz (Neon Indian Remix)

Thanks to the Alex Frankel remix that is above, I was reminded of the awesome, funk-laden remix of Holy Ghost!’s “Crime Cutz” from Neon Indian. Alan Palomo adds a driving rhythmic percussion section that makes this a perfect tune to dance to.

A Remix Spotlight: Synymata Presents Emotional Rework of Slander’s “Love is Gone”

0

In case you were missing it, our good friend Brendan will be back with a full Remix Radar article next week, featuring a whole host of amazing remixes for your listening pleasure. To tide you over until then, I’ve brought one remix I loved from the last week, a brand new reimagining of one of Slander’s best pieces, “Love is Gone” by newcomer Synymata.

A plethora of incredibly talented artists have already tried their hands at remixing this emotional bass music masterpiece, but on Friday Slander passed the torch to one of my most promising new finds of late, Synymata. His version retains all the emotion of the original while showcasing the hard hitting production work from Synymata. Massive bass waves perfectly juxtapose the gorgeous vocals from Dylan Matthew, whose lines get a chopped appearance in the well-crafted drop.

26-year old Milwaukee, Wisconsin native Synymata has been putting out music since 2016 and has already amassed nearly 3 million Spotify streams alone. This remix is surely set to be one of his biggest releases to date, and as bass phenoms Slander are set to start their tour this Friday, January 10th, you can bet you’ll be able to hear this on the big stage at a city near you. Cop tickets here and keep an eye out for more music from Synymata in 2020.
