Watch Swedish House Mafia Perform Live on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon

Teased days ago, Swedish House Mafia have taken their comeback to the next level by performing on Jimmy Fallon. The Swedish trio are joined by Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake to perform their newest release that arrived today; ‘Lifetime’.

Alongside the vocal guided ‘Lifetime’, Swedish House Mafia made it a medley by transitioning into their club orientated ‘It Gets Better’.

The trio were backlit by their iconic triple circle moniker, with their silhouettes performing and Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake appearing during their segments. Incorporating elements of the music video and a live performing turned out brilliantly.

Swedish House Mafia Release ‘Lifetime’ With Ty Dolla $ign & 070 Shake

Just last Friday, we accepted Swedish House Mafia back into our open arms again with their single ‘It Gets Better’ and three days later, we have ‘Lifetime’.

Teaming up with Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake, the single is a groovy pop record that is guaranteed success. The track feels like it could have come from Daft Punk, which may have been on purpose given the Swedes’ fondness for the French duo.

Swedish House Mafia have created a record that speaks to the masses and has commercial appeal. Yet, the record is clearly something they are doing for themselves, not for anybody else.

Many may not have loved ‘It Gets Better’ as much as they expected to but there is no denying the quality of ‘Lifetime’. The production is impeccable and, aided by Ty Dolla $ign and 070 Shake, the five musicians create a masterpiece.

‘Lifetime’ has been the talk of Swedish House Mafia fans before there was even discussions of their recent comeback, as it appeared as a Spotify ad prematurely.

Swedish House Mafia are set to perform the single together with the collaborators on Jimmy Fallon later today, whether or not that will be an in-studio performance is yet to be confirmed.

ILLENIUM Stuns Crowd With Incredible Trilogy Performance

Illenium’s four hour music journey at Allegiant Stadium in Las Vegas was a legendary show not to miss. He made history as the first artist to ever perform at the new Raider’s stadium and the first EDM artist to headline at a stadium. With Cloudnone and 3LAU as openers, the last goodbye to Illenium’s three albums went from 10pm until 1:40 am. Concluding the triple set, Illenium also gave attendees a twenty minute preview of his newest album Fallen Embers. The Trilogy show was a nonstop roller coaster full of emotions.

The stadium held around 35,000 people all wearing lit up Trilogy bracelets, provided on entry. The bracelets synced up with the show’s visuals adding to the already amazing production. His fan base “Illenials” all wore Illenium merch including jerseys from all his shows throughout his career. Nick (Illenium) also released new Trilogy jerseys with Las Vegas patches available at multiple merch booths in the venue. The stadium had seated sections, floor seats, 2 pit sections, and VIP. There was even a livestream of the event for those who couldn’t experience it in person. An unpatched Trilogy jersey was also made available for the livestream viewers.

ILLENIUM announced the live stream of 'Trilogy' from Vegas! - Clubbing TV

The first set was from his album “Ashes” released in 2016. The stadium echoed with screams as the Illenium Phoenix logo appeared with the intro. Nick Miller then surprised everyone by appearing in the middle of the stadium on a raised up stage. Everyone ran to get closer and screamed when the full logo with his name appeared. After Nick said “Las Vegas” into the microphone you could feel and hear the energy of every single person in the crowd cheering with happiness. He opened up his set with a Mashup of “Fractures, Disarm You, Don’t Let Me Down, and Afterlife.” Ending it with his remix of “Shark” by Oh Wonder.

The second album of his Trilogy set “Awake” started as soon as he could run back from the middle stage to the main stage through the center, quickly giving high fives to Illenials at the rail. “Crawl Outta Love” visuals appeared and the “Awake 1.0” intro started. The lights started flashing and the emotions were felt in the huge stadium as the Phoenix appeared at the main stage. The song lyric “And when the sky went dark” played with Nick popping up on stage ready to start the second set asking everyone to sing it with him. The crowd sang along to the chorus of “Crawl Outta Love” and fireworks burst during the first drop of the song.

His original “Awake” sets from his tour in 2017-2018 were live with a band alongside his best friends Said The Sky and Dabin playing on stage with him. This time only Nick was on stage but he brought out Said The Sky during their song “Sound of Where’d You Go.” There were lasers and lights surrounding them as they hugged each other on stage demonstrating how much love they had for each other. Nick closed the set with the “Awake” finale “Leaving Vs Beautiful Creatures.”

The most recent tour “Ascend” then started with the familiar visuals “When you grow up your heart dies” on the main stage. The last album of the Trilogy began slowly and then Nick popped up again speaking to the crowd and this time there were fire flames with fireworks blasting. The “Ascend” tour’s familiar colorful lasers shined everywhere. Another surprise guest appeared which was Dabin shredding his guitar. He stood up on stage with the lights flashing around him. His guitar solo during “Take You Down” made the song more powerful.

All three sets brought out many emotions and when “Good Things Fall Apart Vs Sad Songs” started, Nick surprised everyone with a video showcasing his fans. Pictures and videos appeared of Nick and Illenials throughout his music career. Red, white and yellow confetti came down and the message “Thank You Illenials” appeared on the screen. After the song ended Nick sat on stage and gave a small unexpected speech. He told everyone how he started making music 6 years ago because he loved electronic music and the community. He said it was crazy how it transitioned into a trilogy representing the Phoenix and the transition of his shitty life that is now in the past. He couldn’t believe that he was now playing in a football stadium. He told the attendees that his fans and the music are the reason why he keeps going everyday and how his music isn’t going anywhere.

At the end he previewed “Fallen Embers” and played an unreleased song called “Brave Soul” featuring Emma Grace. He said that it was about a friend who passed away due to an overdose. Illenium closed his life changing show with his new collab with Said The Sky called “Crazy Times.” During the whole show all the bracelets lit up at the same time illuminating every Illenial there as they danced, cried, and headbanged. The Trilogy show was the perfect way to say goodbye to his older albums and welcome the newest generation of his music.

NATIIVE Turns Heads With New Single “Rewind”

0

A relative newcomer by name but with the skillset that belies his years as a musician, NATIIVE is back with his newest single “Rewind.” Cultivating his sound with every release, NATIIVE is committed to releasing quality over quantity.

“Rewind” is a modern-day love song, reminiscing on emotions past and present, aiming to pause and rewind to those special moments. Fusing elements of UK Garage with modern synths and melodies, the emerging producer is looking to stake his claim among house music’s global elite.

“When I made this track, It was right around when quarantine was beginning to be lifted, and I was feeling a bit nostalgic of the past. I was listening to a lot of house music – reminiscent of that era when I got into production and electronic music. I produced 90% of the track in one sitting over the course of a couple hours and then I went about my day haha… Coming out of the year we’ve all been in, with the pandemic and being in lockdown, ‘Rewind’ to me is reflective, remembering the great times and remembering to not take for granted the great moments in life. Just have fun.” – NATIIVE

In The Studio With Tony Romera

0

French funky house superstar Tony Romera joins us today for our In The Studio feature, which sees him dive into the ins and outs of his studio.

Following the release of ‘VHS’ last month, French house producer Tony Romera returns today with the second single ‘MS69’ off his forthcoming album Introspection due later this year on Monstercat. ‘MS69’ showcases Tony’s signature grungy sound that is really fresh at the moment. The excitement is only building for his album.

STUDIO

I’m actually in a special room that my father made about two years ago. I helped him put together the plans but he built everything from the floor to the roof. I got some sick tips from friends of mine, so the room sounds really cool! We added Vicoustic acoustic panels to treat the room, which are sick. I wanted to have my own bunker, so here we are, and I’m the happiest when I’m in this room.

SOFTWARE

I work on Logic Pro X, I really love that DAW, it sounds awesome and I know it really well as I’ve worked on it for many years. I used Ableton to make some live stuff (just started, it’s really fun) and also for guest mixes, stretching some samples, and all the things that are way better and easier on Ableton than Logic. At the beginning, I was working on FL Studio, but then a friend showed me Logic in 2009 and I really loved it. I’ve used it since that day!

I have no particular feature that I love the most, but I really love the environment of it, the design, and I feel comfortable when I work on it. Internal plugins are pretty sick, I always use Logic Compressor, Echo, EXS24, Vintage synth, electric piano, and more. My favorite plugins are Xfer Serum, U-he Diva, Arturia Suite, Roland Suite, Serato Sample, Waves Metafilter, Valhallah Reverbs, and a bunch of UAD plugins.

SOUND

My speakers are the Focal Trio 11 with a Focal Sub 6, and my headphones are Focal Clear Pro. Focal has been my favorite speaker brand for many years. I love how it sounds. I had the Twin 6be before these and they were also awesome. Focal is a French brand and their factory is less than an hour drive from my home so it’s super cool to work with them!

My advice when you choose your monitors is something a friend of mine (Tristan Garner) gave me when I started making music. He told me to start with some cheap monitoring, then when you feel that you use it at 100% and you cannot make better things with it, then you can upgrade. But always step by step. Every time I changed my speakers it’s because I felt blocked with the previous ones, so I stepped up my sound x10 and I feel so comfy with the new Focal, I definitely won’t be changing that for a while!

HARDWARE

I use 5 hardware synths – KORG MS20, Behringer TD3, Behringer Poly D, Moog Little Phatty Stage II, and Arp Odyssey. My favorite is the KORG MS20, I really love working with it, you can make anything you want with these synths, from super agressive basses, to funny leads, to deep pads. I love the filter, it sounds so French, so Daft Punk and Justice. I’d love to get a lot of legendary synths like a Sequential Prophet 5 Rev 4, I think that’ll be the next synth I’ll buy. Moog Minimoog is one of my dream synths too.

EXTRAS

My home fragrances are really important. I love when it smells good in the studio, when other artists come to work, enter and feel at home, that’s really important to me. I have a bunch of different fragrances and I change them every few months.

Be sure to listen to Tony Romera’s latest ‘MS69’ below!

Spiderhound’s ‘Phlame,’ A Trippy Existential Experience That’s All It’s Own

0

From the very first moments, “Phlame,” is a single that you instantly know is going to hit different. The single has a superbly smooth flow with a variety of surprises all built in to it’s engine. The single is created by Spiderhound, a talented rising artist with a diverse background and something special to bring to the table. The percussion leads as the other parts of the production follow; exotic instrumentation, down-pitched vocals, and a “not knowing what comes next,” aura internalizing deep into the psyche.

It’s been quite a life journey with music in the driver seat for artist Spiderhound, from playing in bands decades back to being taken under the wing of names like ill.Gates and Mr. Bill in more recent times when it comes to production lessons, he’s clearly hungry not just to learn from mentors, but to render something that he can be proud to look back upon.

If that is the goal as it seems, “Phlame,” hits the nail on the head when considering these traits. It being apparent his catalog goes back multiple years just under this alias, it’s safe to expect that he will be bestowing more releases on the masses hopefully down a similar lane of stark originality.

Action Paxton and SunRu Drop Trippy Bass Single Titled ‘KEEP IT PSYCHEDELIC’

0

The vibes could not be stronger between what multi-talented artists Action Paxton and SunRu have cooked up in, “KEEP IT PSYCHEDELIC.” As the title hints, there’s a spiritual feel that interconnects with the psyche through the sonic intricacies unfolding in this journey. The trifecta of electronic music, live brass, and rap verses are the central elements that give the color and imagination that’s deeply instilled in this one.

Brass horns – brought by Adam Thesis of the Jazz Mafia – are explosive at some moments and smooth at others. The beat leans into an electronic experimental nature that loosens the body and allows a grander impression to be made. SunRu tops things off with boisterous lyrics to hold the listeners attention steady. There’s much happening all at once here, but it all works and displays healthy collaborative energy that leaves a lasting impression.

Above all, Action Paxton and SunRu’s extensive and global-reaching tour history is probably the greatest aspect they have in common. They’ve both played many, many events in which they’ve been invited to showcase what they are all about. Action Paxton brought joy on stages as far as South Africa and Nigeria, while SunRu too has visited SE Asia, Europe, and Africa to perform to the masses.

More specifically, playing Burning Man from 2008-2019, Oregon Eclipse Festival, Ashland Shakespeare Festival, Plunge Festival (California), Cali Roots Festival, SOFA Fest, Outsidelands, only begins to unravel the experiences Action Paxton has had in lifetime. For SunRu, Earth Dance Festival, Harmony Festival, BPM Festival (Mexico),  Lightning In A Bottle, Reggae On The River, Gaia Festival, What The Festival (Lithuania), and Festival Gnawa (Morocco) are just a few of places he’s bestowed his talents. The two are extremely well-traveled, diversely talented, and know what is takes to make a track pop off, as heard in “KEEP IT PSYCHEDELIC.”

MIZE Returns To SSKWAN With Brand New EP Balancing Act

0

Growing up in a musical household, it was only a matter of time before MIZE started producing electronic music and building a growing and loyal audience. Inspired by massively influential acts such as Tipper and Netsky, MIZE officially launched his project back in 2017, and has since performed in front of thousands at festivals such as WAKAAN Music Festival, High Caliber, and Bonnaroo.

The Alabama-bred producer made his debut on WAKAAN back in August of 2020 with “Thought Process,” following it up in November with an EP of the same name. Now, he has come to SSKWAN to share his brand new EP Balancing Act, arguably one of his most exciting projects to date. Spanning over 6 downtempo bass tracks, driven by ethereal melodies, gritty basslines and energetic percussion, Balancing Act truly showcases MIZE at his best.

“Balancing Act is both a call back to some of the sounds and places that made this project come together in the beginning as well as a foreshadow of the new ideas, techniques, and themes I’ve been diving into as of late. Constantly as I grow older I notice that many aspects of my life are endless periods of balancing many things whether they be relationships, work, leisure, time, and even things as simple as taking care of your own body. I find that sometimes being an artist can be a Balancing Act of adopting new ideas while also attempting to keep the essence of what brought me here alive,” explains MIZE.
