Porter Robinson Releases Second Album Single ‘Something Comforting’

0

After announcing his upcoming album ‘nurture’ and his overall return to the Porter Robinson act – The Canadian artist is here with ‘Something Comforting’, the brilliant second single from the upcoming album.

The release comes after ‘Get Your Wish’ and follows a similar pattern with both the production and the vocals – which both come from talent producer. The soothing vocals together with the immaculate piano and electronic mixture mean for once again an outstanding production. With what sounds like altered vocal chops, ‘Something Comforting’ is just that, a comforting electronic piece from the only producer who could make this track what it is. After this second tease, our anticipation for ‘nurture’ has grown even more.

In the message, Robinson referred to the prolonged creative struggle he went through in the years after Worlds. “I was trying for hundreds of hours a week to make something new,” he said, “and trying so many new ideas, and just feeling unhappy with everything, feeling really, really critical of everything that I was doing, and just feeling like nothing was good enough, and just at the absolute creative low point. And I was really beginning to question whether or not I would ever be able to make music again. And that was a very scary thought to me.”

In 2015, when he came up with the instrumental fill that would eventually appear 1:06 into “Something Comforting,” Robinson perked up. “That was the very first thing that I knew I was going to keep,” he explained. “And I’ve probably listened to it like 10,000 times, maybe more. I would just listen to it obsessively because I was like, ‘This is good enough. This is my taste. This is my shit.’” He said he wouldn’t end up completing a song for Nurture for another three years, and it took him nearly five to finish “Something Comforting.”

Before his album ‘Brightest Lights’ drops January 10th, Lane 8 has treated us with the 5th single from the LP. The 5th single which is out today is ‘Yard Two Stone’ and it’s an incredible production projecting incredible vocals and musical elements.

The soothing vocals from Jens Kuross caress the instrumental brilliantly, resulting in a seemingly slow record. Lane 8’s production showcases his talent for making outstanding melodies.

With his album coming in just a few weeks, let’s hope that Lane 8 continues his pre album singles. If the singles are anything to go by, this album will be an incredible contribution to the dance world.

Ekali and Illenium are at the forefront of EDM. It was only a matter of time before they graced the world with a collaboration. It’s been teased in sets and many videos circulated online fueling the flames and anticipation for the release. Fortunately, the wait is over. “Hard To Say Goodbye” is now streaming in all its glory.

ILLENIUM has had a massive year in 2019, especially due to his album ‘ASCEND’ standing out to both fans and critics. Ekali is set to have an equally impactful 2020, with an album of his own. ‘Hard To Say Goodbye’ is just one of the many special records that will make up his debut album.

Speaking of the single, it is a brilliant display of each other’s ‘softer’ styles. We all know Ekali and ILLENIUM can throw down some hard-hitting tracks, however in this instance, they take the lighter approach. With stand out vocals by Chloe Angelides, she conveys passionately the title throughout the track. The drop is a fresh electronic piece that is exactly what you would expect from this duo collaborating.

If streaming isn’t enough, Ekali recently announced his forthcoming “A World Away” Tour. It will see Ekali bring his incendiary live performances across North America. Dates and tickets can be found here.

Four Electronic-Jazz and Funk Acts Worth Your While

If you like the melodic, more complex side of EDM but you still enjoy a good beat to dance on, you should definitely check out these artists.

Anomalie

Let’s start with Canadian prodigy, producer, performer and pianist, Anomalie. His combination of electronic beats, formidable sound design and classical piano skills results in a wonderful, groovy sound that never fails the dancing crowd. His debut album, ‘Métropole’ and follow-up ‘Métropole II’ have been streamed 750k times. With his first US tour nearly completed it’s time to introduce him to the CULTR community.

Rob Araujo

If you want even more Jazz, you should definitely check out Rob Araujo. His music is more complex, filled with lengthy sophisticated solos that are still played over a heavy electro groove. This LA-based producer and multi-instrumentalist surely is one of the more talented electronic musicians of his time.

Louis Cole

When talking about electronic funk one name comes to mind very quickly, Louis Cole. This drummer, singer, and producer often comes off like he’s from another world. With flashy outfits, funky, electronic beats and loads of humor he never seizes to amuse and move his crowds. His third and most recent album, Time, is one that I would especially recommend If you want a taste of his funk.

KNOWER

Next to his solo career Louis Cole is also known as the drummer of the Electronic duo KNOWER, an even heavier electronic act. Beware: if you are used to EDM you may not like this music. KNOWER has gained popularity with the early years of Youtube and has since toured the globe by itself and as the opener for great acts like the Red Hot Chili Peppers. Even though the RHCP seem to like it, KNOWER clearly is not for everyone…

Golden Features & The Presets Team Up For 4 Track ‘Raka’ EP

0

Golden features has lived out his ‘teenage dream’ with the release today of the collaborative 4 track EP ‘Raka‘. Tom (Golden Features) has worked with Julian and Kim (The Presets) before with them aiding Tom with several tracks on his debut 2018 album Sect. Golden and The Presets first crossed paths with the Golden Features remix of The Presets ‘No Fun’. Ever since then they have been advising each others tracks and this has eventuated into this collaborative EP. Golden Features does not like to collaborate with other artist, with his only other one being a remix with ODESZA. For him to come together with The Presets is a bit of a big deal, especially for four tracks! This releases and the prior single are all artist’s first offerings this year and we’re not complaining!

The first track the album titled ‘Raka’ is is a slow banger that showcases Julian Hamilton on vocals. It is a melodic tune which fits nicely as the initial single of the EP. The highlights of the collection is unsurprisingly ‘Paradise’, it was released as a single in October and provided some hype for the entirety of the release. ‘Paradise’ is a melodic summer tune which has been a hit at Golden’s recent Australian Festival shows.

‘Control’ sounds like a true Golden Features song with its dark house vibes. It is reminiscent of his remix for ODESZA’s ‘Falls’. The drop features metal clangs which are truly other worldly. This heavy bass banger will be sure to fire up festival crowds over new years. The last song in the EP is simply titled ‘The End’. It shows a level of versatility from the trio. Its a slow rhythm with Julian from The Presets taking control of the track with his powerful vocals. Overall the EP is a great listening experience and the result is a unique piece of music from some of Australian best dance talents.

Golden Features has been kept busy lately with this production of this EP alongside a USA tour including stops at Ultra Miami and Coachella. Shortly he will be kicking off an Australian festival run through their summer.

Madeon Releases Angelic Album ‘Good Faith’

0

Today, November 15th – French electronic maestro Madeon has finally released his Good Faith project into the world. Madeon came back to us with new music when he announced Good Faith and more specifically the first single ‘All My Friends’ back in May.

‘Good Faith’ is a prime example of quality over quantity. This was years in the making and the polished product consists of 10 productions, not an excessive number of tracks but each single is a standout. The LP takes you on a musical journey and the tracks are almost ‘score’ like, with atmospheric sounds and a glorious production quality heard throughout.

From start to finish, all the tracks present a similar feel and theme, with each one still having its own individual elements. There are definitely stand outs such as ‘All My Friends’ with its catchy melody and vocals. There is ‘Mania’ with its unique progressing theme that is particularly energetic. ‘Miracle’ on the other hand gives us almost a feel of the older style that Madeon produced – the vocal chops are in full force with this one. ‘Heavy With Hoping’ utilises a vibrant electronic lead to the last stage of the production, something that really showcases Madeon’s unique and brilliant sound.

We went three years without music from the talented Frenchman. That doesn’t seem like a bad price to pay now that we have this technical masterpiece! From track 1-10, the album is amazing and is a refreshing addition to 2019 dance music. Listening to the album thoroughly, it is clear that Madeon really enjoyed writing these tracks.

Audien Unleashes Debut Album ‘Escapism’ On The World

0

Audien has just released his debut LP and it is a good as you would expect! Featuring a mix of previously released singles and brand new ones, this album is a perfect resume of what to expect from the LA based producer.

The album emits some incredible releases and emphasis what Audien does best; melodies. The sound design is impeccable and really captures the melodies.

The mix between quality vocals, captivating builds and electrifying drops results in an album that is truly breathtaking. If you’ve ever been a fan of Audien, this is a must listen. Make sure to wear a jacket as you may get cold from the goosebumps!

Usually you see an artist diversify with an album and experiment with different sounds and genres. Audien has not done that with ‘Escapism’, and it’s not a bad thing. Each track in the album does feature his signature sound, yet each single does have a distinctive feel that separates its self from the rest. However, the last track; ‘Sleep Paralysis’ is a departure from his sound and it’s awesome. The instrumental is a funky and bouncy record that is a delight.

In a message to fans before the release of the album, Audien states that he could have released this album years ago but wasn’t in the right place emotionally and musically.

Willaris. K Joins Astralwerks With ‘5 O’CLOCK/PAST LIGHT’ Record

0

From supporting RÜFÜS DU SOL on tour and having a packed Australian summer schedule, Willaris. K is on top of his game and this new record solidifies that. The record featurs the left-field techno A-side ‘5 O’CLOCK’, and ambient B-side ‘PAST LIGHT’.

Having attracted early references to experimental tastemakers such as Brian Eno, Jon Hopkins and Willian Basinski, the trained pianist and producer has positioned himself in the realm of textural sound, straddling tension and release in his two-track cinematic composition. Partnering with multidisciplinary artist and graphic designer Chris Kore, the package is accompanied by a stunning visualizer that explores multi-dimensional plains of light, movement and mixed realities.

‘5 O’CLOCK’ IS different to his other music which is what makes it so special. There is the standard piano key opening before it transcends into a perfect chaos of sirens and synths. It gradually builds up to a frantic pace right at the epilogue of the production.

‘PAST LIGHT’ is slower, similar to ‘Cobaki Sky’ from his Natural Selection EP. It’s Willaris. K at his best, softly fading in and out in a mesmerising fashion.

Whilst this contains just 2 productions, the listening experience on the EP is far greater that previous. What makes Willaris. K’s songs so great is that they bring a truly different experience each time you listen.

Signing with Astralwerks is just the icing on the cake of what will be a monumental year for the young Australian. We patiently await the next release!
